Donate Your Vehicle and Get a Tax Deduction

If you donate your car to a charity like Volunteers of America Western Washington, 100% of your donation is tax deductible. Often times it is much easier and cheaper for you to donate your car to charity rather than taking the time and money to fix it. What is the best part about donating your car to charity and receiving the tax deduction? You get to decide the amount of money to claim on your taxes up to five hundred dollars. For cars that generate funds for Volunteers of America and any of our coalition partners of over five hundred dollars, you will automatically be entitled to take a deduction of that amount. The IRS has much more information about the proper steps to be completed in order for you to claim your vehicle donation on your taxes, which can be found here. And, of course, if you have any questions, just call us at 877-CAR-4VOA!

car4voa.org has made donating your vehicle fast and easy. Simply call our donation hotline at 1-877 CAR 4 VOA, or fill out our Donation Form and an Intake Assistant will be glad to guide you though the process. Once we’ve collected your information, we will pickup your vehicle for FREE and in most cases, within 24 hours. Your peace of mind is important to us, which is why we have our own tow trucks and drivers pickup your vehicle. Our trained drivers will leave a temporary reciept upon pickup. Our Intake Office prepares all of your tax documentation, does all the licensing paperwork and sends you via mail or email, everything you need to get a deduction.
According to the IRS, you are able to determine your cars own value up to $500. For vehicles valued over that amount, we will attempt to get you the full fair market value for your vehicle through the Governments vehicle deduction program. In rare cases, donor’s are only able to deduct the selling price of the vehicle as a deduction, however, our office is trained to maximize every donor’s tax deduction.
In most cases, our drivers are able to pickup your car within 24 hours of receiving your information.
No Problem! If you’re not able to be with the car, just leave the keys and title in the glove box, and leave one door unlocked. Our trained drivers can take it from there. You’ll still come home to a temporary receipt hanging on your door.
In most cases, we can take your vehicle. As long as it is tow truck accessible, we can take cars, boats, RV’s, Trailers or RV’s. Regardless of your vehicles running situation, we are able to turn your donation into a means of supporting the community. We are also able to take boats in marinas or dry storages and aircrafts that are in municipal airports.
We are able to take  any vehicle located in Western Washington. This includes Island and remote locations.

Brandi Scott couldn’t stop smiling – on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, the Charles County mother of three received a Subaru Forester from Vehicles for Change. “You all are granting wishes, giving miracles to each person who comes through here,” Scott said, beaming and wiping away tears. “You all are granting wishes, giving miracles to each person who comes through here,” Scott said, beaming and wiping away tears.

Scott, who works for the Family Investment Program at St. Mary’s Department of Social Services, had to take 4 buses to get to work each day. She recently had to turn down a supervisor position at her work because she did not have car.

“When I heard that I was getting a car, the first thing I thought is that I don’t have to stand in the cold or rain for hours, waiting for the bus anymore,” said Scott, “I don’t have to pick up the kids after 7 pm….I can’t begin to say, this is truly a blessing.”

Scott found the VFC car award program through her own online research. After calling VFC, she learned that she qualified to receive a vehicle through the Maryland Transportation Assistance Program.

“I had a lot of advocates,” said Scott, “My family members helped and VFC’s Steve [Sullivan] told me to hang in there. He kept pushing for me to get a car.”

Scott was planning on surprising her three children with the vehicle by picking them up from school.

“My oldest son wanted to play football – and he couldn’t before, because we didn’t have a car – but now he can!” said Scott, “He doesn’t know it yet, but I’m taking him to weight training practice tonight!”
